How to Make Pomegranate Juice
Pomegranate seeds are not ideal for running through the juicer because they contain a small pit on the inside, which if it breaks open, contributes to a bitter tasting juice. Therefore, you will have to find a different way to make pomegranate juice in order to prevent the pits from being crushed. There are basically two ways that you can go about this, which include the use of a blender or a food mill.
When I first heard about a blender I didn’t think that it would work and was reluctant to try it. But because I didn’t have a food mill, I had no other choice but to try it. And to my surprise it worked really well and none of the seeds got crushed.
All you do is simply peel the seeds away from the pomegranate compartments. This is about the only time consuming part about making pomegranate juice as you have to basically peel them away one-by-one. If you try to go faster, you will end up with pomegranate juice all over you as well as the counter.
Once the seeds are released, put them into a blender one handful at a time. Pulse the seeds with about 2 to 3 short pulses until the juice is released. The key is not to pulse them too long as that will crack the bitter pits. I find a magic bullet works great, but I imagine any blender with a pulse button will work.
After the pomegranate seeds have released their juice, simply strain the mixture through a nut milk bag in order to separate the juice from the pits.
I have not tried it with a food mill but it sounds very easy to do. Unlike with the blender, a food mill basically does the job in one step. You simple put the loose pomegranate seeds into the food mill and spin them around until the juice and pits are separated.
How to Consume Pomegranate Juice
Pomegranate juice is great on its own, or you can mix it up with other fresh juices, such as mango, orange and strawberries. It also goes great with apple cider vinegar and nut milk.
Another thing that you can do with pomegranate juice is add it to your superfood smoothies, along with acai and kapikachu seed powder.
Pomegranates are high in antioxidants, which help to clean the body at a deep cellular level. This action in return helps to keep degenerative diseases at bay as they are often caused by an accumulation of toxins.
