Herbal Tea

Herbal tea is fairly easy to make as all you need is a tea ball, your favorite blend of herbs, or a tea bag and hot water. There are also several ways to make herbal tea. You can purchase prepackaged tea in tea bags, loose leaf tea, or you can grow your own tea. Whichever type of tea you prefer, the herbal teas are generally tasty and the health benefits are a wonderful bonus. You can add a natural sweetener such as honey, agave nectar or stevia for extra sweetness. In many cases, however, a sweetener is not necessary because many teas are great just as they are.

Herbal tea is a great way to relax at the end of the day as many of the ingredients within the tea are able to offer up a soothing relief for stress, anxiety and fears. Therefore, it is great for helping your mind to relax and fall into a deep sleep at night. But that doesn’t mean that you cannot have tea at other times of the day. As a matter of fact, an herbal tea is also great upon rising and can serve as a substitute for a coffee.

Ways to Make Herbal Tea

To make the tea, simply decide whether you will be using loose leaf tea or a tea bag. If using a tea bag, simply steep the bag in a cup of hot water for about 3 to 15 minutes. The longer you steep the tea, the stronger the flavor will be. After steeping, you can add in a sweetener if desired. If making more than one cup, you can steep several bags in a teapot.

Making loose leaf tea is also very easy. You simply take about a teaspoon or a larger amount of the tea and place it into a tea ball or a special holder designed for steeping tea. Then you simply steep the tea as you would with a tea bag. The benefit of making loose leaf tea is that you can mix as many of your favorite flavors into one pot of tea.

You can also make an herbal tea from herbs in your garden. Lavender, chamomile, peppermint and basil are great herbs to use in a natural tea. Ginger root, cloves, garlic and other spices can also be used in a tea for extra zing and flavor. When making an herbal tea from fresh ingredients you will have to chop them up before steeping as that allows the flavors to release into the hot water. The fresh herbs and spices can also be dried in the sun or in a dehydrator and stored for winter use.
